I want One - A Not So Occasional Series Pt12.0

It's always good to get a new angle on things and just after i posted the 'I want one ' about these binos, quoting David Petzal a new copy of Field and Stream landed on the door mat. Whadda you know he was doing a feature on optics.

Last time he said

MYTH: Thousand-dollar binoculars are a waste of money.
TRUTH: I can’t tell you how many guides I’ve met who owned the clothes on their back, a pickup truck, and a pair of thousand-dollar binoculars. There’s a reason for that.

This time it was

'I don't know how many guides I've met who dressed in rags, lived on wallpaper paste and government cheese but who owned a pair of $2000 binoculars"

That's inflation for you, but it's good to see I'm not the only one taking recycling seriously!

See ya soon

This may sound like high heresy, but there a lot of guys out there raving about and very favorably comparing (to the Alpha glass) the new ED glass that's coming out of...China.

I've only had one pair of European glass, 7x35 Leitz roof prisms I picked up in a pawn shop. They were nice, but they were also pretty old technology and it was obvious (to my eyes) the newer four to five hundred dollar glass was better, so I traded them off.

That's probably as close as I'll ever get to another pair of Leicas, Zeiss or Swaros, because I just can't see paying two grand for binoculars, especially when I keep reading about both hunters and birders saying things like "I sold my Swaros and bought a pair of the new Zen-Ray EDs"

When you put it like that the other £300 for the laser sounds quite reasonable. Funnily enough i've always pictured you in Moleskins.
