  12. Buy a stunning handmade recurve bow and get competant enough with it to hunt.
  13. Hunt Marco Polo sheep in Kazakhstan -
  14. Finish the Mongolian rally and Plumb-out a school in Mongolia - think of the bragging rights to this one!
  15. Catch a double figures Sea Bass off Hastings - with Johna there to watch
  16. DIY pheasant hunting in South Dakota
  17. Visit all the coolest, wittiest bloggers I'm yet to meet in real life - you know who you are
  18. Be friends again with the Ex Mrs SBW - the kids like her, if I'm going to know her for the rest of my life we may as well get along.
  19. Actually finish some film scripts/novels/patent applications
  20. Prove to everyone, once and for all, that your dreams can come true.

Only one and twenty are in order.
Your pal

Nice list! could use some more fishing and bird hunting...

The recurve deal is on my list too, though being a DIYer, I'm hoping to make my own (or maybe a longbow)

Mostly seems achievable, except perhaps cordial relations with the ex. Not that I know your ex - I've just never met cordial relations with one.

Sounds like a winner of a list to me, SBW! Good luck checking it off.

Makes me kinda think about what mine would look like...

Oh, and if you get out to CA on your trek to visit the witty bloggers, be sure to make an exception and look me up while you're here.

pretty sure I can help you with two of those... specifically the ones in order.

I know what you mean about making you're own bow, I'd like to make one in the style of Ishi's reverse hold/mongolian release bow.

I'm shocked! I didn't have you marked down as a fatalist. I'm still godfather (and occasional employer) to the son of one of my Ex'es, we get on really well.

SBW - What is your opinion on the UK's opinion that its Illegal to bowhunt? (Bizarre if you ask me)

Have a nice weekend!

I'm not pleased, basically. Many other european countries allow bowhunting.

But the UK rules look like this:
It's an interesting one isn't it? It seems that the deer laws and would appear to be a remnant of the Norman prohibition of hunting for non aristocrats.

The Deer Act of 1991 sets out the rules and prohibitions:

In England, Wales and N.I. it is a minimum calibre of .240 for all deer.
In Scotland "For shooting any species of deer - a bullet designed to deform in a predicable manner of not less than 100gr. (6.48g) with a muzzle velocity of not less than 2450 ft/ses (746.78m/sec) and a muzzle energy of not less than 1750ft/lbs

Prohibited methods [s.4 Deer Act , s.3 SI 2183,
s.11 Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981]
It is illegal to set in position for deer any trap, snare or poisoned or stupefying bait or to take or kill any deer with these items or any net. It is illegal to take, kill or injure a deer using: any arrow, spear or similar missile; any missile however discharged, carrying a
poison or stupefying drug; any automatic or semi-automatic full bore rifle
(Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988); Any firearm or ammunition mentioned in
Schedule 2 of the Deer Act or the SI 2183, specifically;
1. Any smooth bore gun;
2. For Roe deer and larger deer: a rifle having a calibre less than .240 inches or a muzzle energy of less than 1700 ft lbs (both criteria apply)
3. For Chinese Water Deer and Muntjac: a rifle having a calibre of less than .220 inches and a muzzle energy of less than 1000 foot pounds, and a bullet weighing not less than 50 grains (all criteria apply)
4. Any air gun, air rifle or air pistol
5. Any cartridge for use in a smooth-bore gun
6. Any bullet for use in a rifle other than a soft- nosed or hollow-nosed bullet

THe animal rights lobby is WAY powerful here so I doubt there'll ever be a change to the law.

Well that's some list! I hope a visit to Howling Duck Ranch is somehow involved in helping you tick off #6 and #17!

Nice to catch up. Good luck with the cordial relations... I'm going through the same myself.

cheers,

Kristeva

PS. just bought this season's hunting license and ticked off 'yes I hunt with a bow'! I've been learning this winter to use a compound bow.
