AIR (Artist In Residence) and your pal the Bushwacker set out to forage the neighbourhood. The apple tree, that was to be the basis for our planned crumble had been stripped so we crossed the bridge onto Hackney Marshes. Where it turned out a bounty had been laid on for us.
Blackberries seemed a bit past their best, but Elderberries had just come on-song.
Some serious boiling-down later
Looks like jam
Tastes like jam

The AIR dresses well for foraging!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new header - I like being able to see the first post when I click over.
I am so jealous. Everything looks so awesome, even the fruit :P

ReplyDeleteThe header, well we have the good graces of Hubert to thank for that, the old one annoyed him so much he sent me a new one!
AIR is a total dude, and as such his sartorial decorum is always perfect

An enjoyable post, thanks.
ReplyDeleteRegards.
We, too, need to be thinking about the local apple trees. Thank you for the reminder. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteNice post. I think a linen suit is fine forage-wear (as of course are a pair of camo culottes!)
ReplyDeleteDamsons have been a bit thin in my forage patch this year. I think a herd of cows vaulted the fence and gobbled them. Nonetheless, there have been enough to provide me with something to nibble & quench my thirst on a few times when I've been out wandering of late.
I'm glad you like SBW's new header, Holly, thanks!

ReplyDeleteEr hmm. They're not culottes, they're somewhere between short longs and long shorts.
Damsons down here are out, but still very tart. No sloes at all though?

I love the blog, keep it up. I wish I could get mine to look like yours. Your photos are great. You've motivated me to get on top of making jelly from the rasberries I have in the freezer that we picked all of July. I guess those apple trees are calling, too. For forage wear, I'm always partial to wool. But its hard to beat wool most of the year here in Maine.

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, On the subject of forage wear, funny you should say that. The special visitor has made a delivery of wool outdoor gear, just as the weather here has changed

I can now say, from personal experience, the elderberry jam (while slightly runny ;p) was seriously yummy. Next up? Elderberry wine! ♥
