  1. Someday I have to find a way to get you the 1940 Craighead videos... this and MUCH more.

Did they send a review copy of the new book? I asked!

  3. Fantastic video! One of my fantasies is to raise sighthounds and a cheetah together and hunt with them as a "pack"--IF I lived in the proper place for such, which, alas, I don't.....L.B.

  5. Hey man, I said it was a FANTASY, not that I was going or could do it! SO MANY obstacles in the way of this--difficult-but-not-impossible fantasy. First would be the legality of trying to privately own an endangered species like a cheetah in the U. S. these days. Ethically it is VERY politically incorrect now(not that that would stop me), but there are ALWAYS orphaned cheetah cubs in need of a good home, if you know where to look, and have the right connections and a LOT of money(which I have neither!)....I'd also like to live out West in more open plains/prairie country to do this--I presently live in the subtropical junglelike(in summer, at least) Southeastern forest(which I dearly love and would miss terribly were I forced to leave it)--NOT the best environment for coursing! I DO have 2 Kazahkstan Tazis(basically Asian Salukis)--among many other dog types--that do purty well despite the thick forest habitat. I've often wondered WHY the Middle Easterners and Asian Indians(as opposed to the REAL Injuns in the Americas) never coursed sighthounds and cheetahs together? Perhaps they did sometimes--but I've never seen/read an account of such. Maybe the dogs fight the cheetah, or the cheetah eats the dogs? Yet cheetahs and dogs raised together in zoos have been great companions. Anyway, I'd like to find out! Might have to wait for reincarnation on that one.....Hey, I DID get to roam and hunt for a coupla decades with a pack of wolf hybrids at least! Which everyone told me I couldn't do either, but I did successfully--it was wonderful! Which brings us to another of my fantasies--a WOLF LURCHER!....L.B.

You surprise me! I'd have thought you'd be able to have a veritable cheetah farm in TX?

If I get time and money later this year I'm planning to go back to Spain to run some Galgo. But i need to get a fishing trip in Galicia out of the way first.

Still trying to find a space i can keep a harris hawk, which is not proving easy/affordable

  7. Funny you mentioned Texas--though I grew up in and live in North Carolina, my father's side of the family are Texans to the core! I visited there a few times growing up, and very briefly lived on the Gulf Coast of Texas near Houston--what I considered a HORRIBLE environment(the bunghole of the U. S., in my opinion)--but I like the rest of Texas, ESPECIALLY the "hill country" where many of my relatives and ancestors settled. It is INCREDIBLY like the bush country in East and Southern Africa, and would be a SUPERB place to raise and roam with some cheetahs! You know Texas is chock full of all manner of exotic antelope(many of them African in origin) thanks to exotic hunting ranches there? But fate took me elsewhere(not that I'm complaining or anything....) Hey, I'd like to hang out with some Galgos myself! And good luck getting you a Harris Hawk one day, too! So many critters, so little time.......L.B.

  8. ....I only just now noticed the Typo--"Cheatah"! Well, I think from the gazelle's point of view, a human utilizing one of these swift cats to run it down IS cheating!...L.B.

Please feel free to leave comments. I really enjoy hearing what readers think. The rules are the same as round my dinner table:

You're welcome to disagree, life would be way too boring if we all agreed with each other and we'd never learn anything.
I like to think that we're all grown up enough to argue every last point, right down to the bone, without bearing a grudge afterwards.

Come on in the waters lovely
