My 500th Blog Post

Well doesn't time fly? 500 posts along the road. I've learned to write [a little], a bit about shooting, very little about archery, I can now cast[ish] a fly [so that's 1% of yer actual fly fishing], I've collected most of the gear, been on TV, made myself a dinner party pariah, changed job, worked my way out of poverty, been cheated back into it, separated from the mother of my children, found and lost love, feasted on the flesh of wild animals, and felt the shame of my shopping perpetuating factory pharming.
All in the name of freedom, adventure and a more honest relationship with my dinner.

[Shrill] Horrified dinner part guest: You kill deer! How can you do that?
[Smirking] SBW: With a high-velocity rifle.

Honestly. Not much of this would have happened without you dear reader, some of you have actually stuck with it and read every post, some of you have written blogs of your own, a few of you I've actually met. I can honestly say blogging is the best thing I've ever done, I cant even begin to express how much it's sustained me during the dark times, how cool I've seen myself look in some peoples eyes and just how great it is to have a little bit of inner space where I can speak to you in the voice of SBW.

I could make a long list, a roll of honor of the bloggers I've emailed with and or met, and try to thank you all individually but I'd be mortified if I missed anyone out. I've loved every minute of it. It's meant more to me than I can say.

More soon

But seriously you look a bit like Jason statham in that picture-well done. Kelly brook might come round all confused and needy.

  2. 500 eh, who'd have thought it? Mind I wasn't aware that it was easily countable!
Anyway enough of the small talk and the Tea Lady and I are glad if any help we gave worked out!

Soppy AKA tired and emotional, me and the Ex Mrs SBW have been having one of our 'episodes' - honestly i'd use her a bait if the kids weren't so fond of her!

Your help has been invaluable, and I'd be a lot thinner by now if it wasn't for the Tea Lady. Now that I'm persona non grata at the Ex Mrs SBW's place I'll have a lot more free time! As opposed to time I spend working for free.

As a massive fan of your writing that means an awful lot to me. PS have you tried deleting the cache in your browser? It may help.

Just as every meeting needs at least one person banging their fist on the table, It's not really a dinner party unless someone takes the hump is it?

Thanks very much, even though i dont comment that often I read all your posts - so you i will not be challenging to a race to a thousand posts!

The whole Elk thing is actually looking a bit tricky, I was expecting to take him in Finland but while smaller game seems no problem at all the Elk maybe have more legal hoops to be jumped through for bowhunting.

    Still we'll see

  15. Hey, congratulations !

I hope you keep on writing more and more, althugh i know that sometimes its hard to find time, or sometimes men just dont have anything to share for readers. I am on that now, i havent done anything special to write about. Few knives in progress, one backpack in progress etc but other than that, ive been just living silently.

Hoping to meet you face to face,

    M.

We have yet to meet which I am sure will be rectified in the coming year.
All the best for the season.

  22. Spotted, Bushwhacker!

You must come and visit Texas -- maybe we can go out against the hogs... at the very least make a lot of noise in the countryside. You'd enjoy the dinner parties too.

    Merry Christmas.

that visit to the shooting school is still on my mind - i wonder what they'd make of the original odd couple turning up?

  24. WOW! After several attempts to try and follow your blog ( last time I was computer-literate, the Commodore 64 was king ) I have achieved success!
My last post to you was signed " MCCOOBS Manitoba, Canada" Should have read Greetings FROM : MCCOOBS, from Manitoba, Canada! lol.
I like your Blog as it comes across as honest, non-pretentious and far from "preachy" - and you do NOT seem to present yourself as an "expert" You know what you know, and that is what you know...
I'm a bitlong-winded I know, but... praise is always nice to recieve.. :)

Please feel free to leave comments. I really enjoy hearing what readers think. The rules are the same as round my dinner table:

You're welcome to disagree, life would be way too boring if we all agreed with each other and we'd never learn anything.
I like to think that we're all grown up enough to argue every last point, right down to the bone, without bearing a grudge afterwards.

Come on in the waters lovely
