A tubby suburban dad watching hunting and adventure shows on TV and wondering could I do that? This is the chronicle of my adventures as I learn to learn to Forage, Hunt and Fish for food that has lived as I would wish to myself - Wild and Free.

A Ferreter Of The Old School
I saw this video by Will Halfacree on James Marchington's blog. It reminded me of our day ferreting, only Frank, 90, is a lot fitter!
Frank, a legend from East Budleigh, still continues to use the traditional method of Ferrets to catch rabbits in the Devon hedgerows.
Enjoy

Please feel free to leave comments. I really enjoy hearing what readers think. The rules are the same as round my dinner table:
You're welcome to disagree, life would be way too boring if we all agreed with each other and we'd never learn anything.
I like to think that we're all grown up enough to argue every last point, right down to the bone, without bearing a grudge afterwards.
Come on in the waters lovely

Last time I checked, ferreting wasn't legal here in West Virginia, but there's still a few people that do it, I've heard.
ReplyDeletePretty cool, thanks SBW. I notice he doesn't use all that ferret detector collars & stuff - which always struck me as a bit of a pain in the bum.
ReplyDeleteCheers,

ReplyDeleteReally? James and I had to do a fair bit of digging, even with the collars.

Love this guy! And I watched how he killed that fryer twice and still can't figure it out - whatever it is, damn, he's good at it!
ReplyDelete"A fryer",whats that,a rabbit that`s small and fits in a frying pan.
ReplyDeleteThe vid reminds me of when I was a yoof,me and my pal used to course hares and rabbits with my lurchers,Tigger and Tess, they`re dead now bless em,Tess caught a low flying pheasant once, she leaped like a gazzele and plucked it out of the air.
