We been batting back and forth ideas about blade thickness; a Mora sometimes looks a little flimsy (proven not to be - but they're SO thin) and the Fallkniven F1 often seems like overkill with its 5 mm of super steel. Black Rabbit's going to work the blade so the spine will retain plenty of metal, while everything towards the cutting edge will be thinned to give the blade a little of the Mora's finesse.
Once again massive thanks Black Rabbit

I like the way it is shaping up. It oughta be real nice when it's all said and done.
ReplyDeleteBTW, something's up with your formatting, there near the bottom.

Envy does not suit me. I wish a gifted knife maker would just make me a knife of a life time and send it to me just because he likes the cut of my jib......you jealous pal Envirocapitalist.
ReplyDeleteThe Editor and Chief of Field and Stream Magazine read my blog and wants me to contact them. Woo Hoo!!!

Albert I heard a rumor that you are a bit of a smith yourself.....

THAT is a fine looking blade. I prefer a little thickness, something that can be batoned with confidence. Like the rasp idea, never thought of that!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the end result either. As soon as my replacement linisher belts arrive I can finish the grind. Then just need to heat treat and fit and shape the handles.
ReplyDeleteComing together nicely so far.

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, but I'd have to be like arnie to wear an F1 as a neck knife!

ReplyDeleteBy the way, as far as blade thickness... one of my favorites for hogs and elk is a particularly thick custom knife made from a sawmill blade. There is no breastplate or pelvic bone that can stand up to it (although I prefer a zip saw for pelvic bones... the only place I like to use a saw).
Otherwise, I prefer thin... not that my preferences really have any relevance. Whatever you get is gonna be awesome!
Oh.. and congrats, Bridid!
